As you climb up the road away from Yellowstone Lake in the fall, you may meet a wall of gold. This wall of gold. Unfortunately, there’s not an easy spot to pull off, so that means pulling off before or after and walking a bit to get here. It’s worth it, though – as the Thimbleberry leaves almost pulse with energy simply because they are so brilliant wearing their fall colors.

Just next to the bunkhouse at Lamar Buffalo Ranch, home of the Yellowstone Association Institute, there’s an inviting couple of boards that form the footbridge over Rose Creek. This delightful creek helps a tiny wetland to thrive between the desert of the sagebrush on both sides. A refuge. A place to call you to pause and reflect even if only for a moment.

The aspen here are just starting to change. The cool nights, slow to warm clear days and bite back in the wind shows we’re already in fall mode up here. So, while the peak week for the changing aspen is a few more weeks off, it’s time to revisit some of my favorite aspen photos.

Since my husband has taken a greater interest in old tractors (and working to restore ours), I’ve been paying more attention and find I really enjoy photographing them. Last weekend we took a trip down to the Tractor Pull in Lake George just for fun. One of the new ones was this vintage road grader, found by the owner somewhere just north of Woodland Park.
