Or maybe that should be A Rhad Tail (short, but cute) – or Rhadism.

I made breakfast burritos this morning – and the dogs were underfoot, so I told them “Out of the Kitchen!”  and got back to it.  Not really paying attention, Rhad must have been in stealth mode – because he obviously slowly moved his bowl in the kitchen – and all of a sudden I feel him brush by my leg to shove it into the perfect spot to catch anything that might drop – then he looked up at me and backed out of the kitchen.

Yep, just another Rhad Tale.

Had to work at getting a couple of better shots of him:

The stuffed carrot is his favorite at the moment – squeeking like mad and leaping about with it 2 minutes ago and now he’s crashed and is sound asleep.  Happy Birthday, kiddo!

And, yes, I vacuumed up lots of tiny little bits of this stick.  Better that than chewing on the furniture or bannister on the stairs.

Finally found a bit of time to process the photos from this week for Project 365 – taking a photo a day for a year.  I’ve kept up with it, but a few days have not been the best, as my focus has been on other parts of the business, but I suppose that’s just a part of the whole process here – training myself to keep my eyes open and my camera handy.

And, just because – here’s another cute photo of Rhad from last night – he’s really starting to pose.  I call his name with the camera up and he’ll look at me and  hold the pose until the flash goes off.  Such a good boy.  Hard to believe he’s almsot 6 months old now!

Playing around with the various focus settings gave me a better idea of how to capture dogs in flight.  This Project 365 (taking at least a photo a day for a year) is already paying off.
In this first one, I got myself into position on the other end of a path he could choose to use, but instead, in good Corgi fun, he chose to sneak around.  I had to pretend I was still waiting for him on the main path, knowing he’d blast straight at me from the side.  A good test for the focus settings.  Not too bad for a quick swing around and shoot.

And here, Taylor was getting up to top speed determined NOT to be herded by Rhad – though Rhad kept up with her pretty well.

It’s STILL snowing as I write – we’re almost up to 2 feet now.  I’ll be heading out with the camera again – been playing around a bit with the focus features – am anxious to see if I can get better pics of Rhad plowing through the snow coming at me – but for now he needs a nap.

The sun came out for a short bit yesterday and that was just enough to change the texture of the snow.  Soon, I looked down in the yard and saw hanging from him, a 4″ snowball.  I called him to me, and much of it started to fall off, but HAD to snap a few pictures before removing it.  Bison in Yellowstone have the same thing happen to them only on the fur from their chins.  You can see how well Rhad liked the photos – he even lifted his chin in case I missed what the problem was.  Smart boy.  And ever patient with me when I have the camera in my hands.

And where was Taylor during all of this?  In ONE position.  Just watching us.  I really wanted to get both of them together, but no such luck.  So, here she is:

It’s the first time Rhad’s really experienced deep snow – we’re up to 16″ and another 7-11″ are expected tonight.   It was a fun day of going out to blaze some trails for him so he wasn’t completely exhausted – and took the camera with me each time.  More to come…

Hard to believe it, but he’s 5 months old and developing QUITE the personality.  We really lucked out with him – he is, hands down, the easiest puppy we’ve had.  Our only problem is getting him to come in when we call WITHOUT playing a game.  If it’s a game, he’ll come charging.  If not, he’ll work to turn it into a game if he can.  He loves hiding, and if I give up he comes CHARGING as fast as he can.

The other day, though, he didn’t.  I couldn’t figure out where he had gone.  I got Taylor and asked her where she put her puppy.  The look she gave me was the equivalent of rolling her eyes.  And she walked away and laid down.  Ok, no emergency.  I found him – stuck.  He climbed up a snowpile onto a tiny ledge made from scrap material we used to block off ‘under the stairs’ from the digging Samoyeds.  He could NOT figure out how to get off.  He was stiff and frozen in place, terrified to move.  I had to let him sniff my hand and get him to turn his head before I could lift him off his ledge that was maybe 6″ off the ground.

He did the same ‘freeze’ thing the other night when going to bed.  We cuddle with them on the bed and both of us were out of the room.  He decided to walk onto one of the end tables next to the bed.  But there were ‘things’ on there and he couldn’t turn around.  So he sat, waiting, frozen to the spot, but not scared because he knew where we were.  Now had that been any Samoyed, the full water glass would have gone flying, the clock radio, and other items following the water glass.

He’s big enough now to handle all the stairs in the house on his own, and yet I still REALLY miss picking him up from his crate in the morning when we’re both half asleep, and while walking down the stairs, him nuzzling his head under my chin with happy little moans as he breathes in my scent.  That time was short.  It always is with babies.
